Fostering leadership qualities in our students

Macinley Butson, an award-winning inventor and scientist, presented to Year 11 students from across our PMSA schools at our annual Youth Leaders’ Forum on Thursday, 2 May 2024.

The students from across our four schools – Brisbane Boys’ College, Clayfield College, Somerville House and Sunshine Coast Grammar School – are encouraged annually to attend the event to hear from remarkable leaders on how to ‘lead for impact’.

Master of Ceremonies, Brisbane Boys’ College student Nicholas S. welcomed everyone to the event with Somerville House student, Leah leading the opening prayer and Clayfield College student, Tiani closing the proceedings with a vote of thanks.

Aunty Kathy performed the Welcome to Country and PMSA Chief Executive Officer, Shane Coppin introduced Macinley who described her journey which led her to be recognised both nationally and internationally for her contributions to humanity.

Macinley shared how her curious nature at just 16 years old led to the development of inventions such as SMART Armour to improve outcomes for radiotherapy breast cancer patients and how your passion can lead you to greatness.

The forum is designed to inspire and challenge our emerging leaders on how to ‘lead for impact’ and promote thoughtful debate and conversation around excellence in leadership and important social issues.

On behalf of the PMSA and our schools, we thank Macinley for sharing her wisdom and inspiration.
