The Somerville House Cantrice Choir captured the crowd with their performance at the National service commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore in WWII.
Directed by Ms Claire Preston, the choir performed The Captives’ Hymn at the Ann Street Shrine of Remembrance in ANZAC Square during the Service held last Sunday 19 February at 10.00am. The Service was televised on Channel 7 News and included many dignitaries, including the Governor of Queensland, the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC.
This was the first time that a Choir was included in the Service. The organisers invited Somerville House to be involved to symbolise the Captive Women who composed and performed The Captives’ Hymn in the prisons during the War.
The School acknowledges the students, Ms Preston, Mr Christian Gante and Mr Greg Loxton for this significant community service.
